Treatment for parent/family accommodation of ocd and anxiety

Parents and family members often get unintentionally pulled into the cycle of OCD and anxiety. Well-meaning behaviors aimed at reducing a child or family member’s discomfort when confronted with fear or anxiety can unfortunately backfire, maintaining their symptoms and impeding recovery. Negotiating with the demands of OCD and anxiety can become the central focus of your relationship with your child or family member, often leading to feelings of frustration and helplessness. Dr. O’Bryan offers parent-focused therapy to help parents better understand the cycle of OCD and anxiety, increase validation of their child’s emotions, and reduce their own accommodation behaviors that serve to reinforce OCD and anxiety symptoms. This work is rooted in the SPACE Program— or Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions. This work can be done regardless of your child’s willingness to engage in individual therapy, but can also be a helpful addition to their individual CBT.
