Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) for anxiety group

Coastal CBT New England is excited to offer an 8-week virtual Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) for Anxiety group led by Dr. Emily O’Bryan.

What is MBCT?

Broadly, MBCT is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy that fosters mindfulness skills through formal meditation practices in order to help individuals learn to better allow and tolerate unwanted emotional experiences without avoidance and remain present and engaged in daily life. MBCT was originally developed to prevent the relapse of depressive symptoms, but has also been applied to anxiety-related symptoms with positive results.

Who is appropriate for the group?

Individuals ages 18+ with anxiety-related symptoms who:

  • are seeking an adjunctive treatment to enhance ongoing individual CBT/ERP for anxiety; OR

  • would like continued practice in tolerating anxiety symptoms as they decrease the frequency of individual CBT/ERP sessions; OR

  • have completed CBT/ERP and would like to prevent relapse of anxiety symptoms; OR

  • have no prior CBT/ERP experience, mild to moderate anxiety symptoms, and an individual therapist, psychiatrist, or psychiatric nurse practitioner
